Mount Hotham Alpine Resort

With support from the Victorian Government and close engagement with key stakeholders, we were charged with delivering a vibrant architectural language to new and upgraded visitor facilities at Mt Hotham Alpine Resort. This multi-stage project has seen JWP design key buildings that form the masterplan, including the Whiskey Flat Multi-Purpose Building, Alpine Gateway Visitor Centre, Wire Plain Activity Hub and Hotham HQ.

Our long experience with both the challenges and the beauty of this environment has informed our approach. While each site has an individual design response, they also share an architectural language with tones inspired by surrounding snowgums and forms that reference alpine heritage. Key to the development of this project has been our consultation with Gunnai Kurnai traditional owners to best reflect the Indigenous culture of the area as a meeting place.

Despite the challenges of a severe climate, six-month building seasons and limited construction contractors, the masterplan is now taking shape with both improved facilities and village cohesiveness – providing a place in the snow to enjoy for generations to come.
